Jaguar service history check by registration

A Jaguar service history check shows the visits recorded against a car's registration, with the date, the mileage and the garage. Used Jaguars can look like strong value, and a complete record is one of the things that separates a well kept car from a cheap one with expensive surprises ahead. It covers Jaguars from model year 2012 where a record is held.

Does Jaguar keep a service record?

Jaguar retailers record the work they carry out, and that is what a check by registration reads. A used Jaguar may have a stamped book too, depending on its age, so ask for it and read it alongside the visits on record. The two should agree on dates and mileage.

Jaguar specialists look after many of these cars once they are out of warranty. Their work may appear only on invoices, so a good car can show a record that stops part way through. Kept invoices are a good sign that the car has been looked after.

How often should a Jaguar be serviced?

Jaguar service plans use A and B services, and the interval depends on the engine. Tables for the XF show 16,000 miles or 12 months for 2.0 petrol, 3.0 petrol and 3.0 diesel cars from 2018, while the 2.0 diesel has an A service at up to 21,000 miles or 24 months. The F-Pace has also been reported on a longer interval. The car's service indicator can ask for a visit sooner than the published plan.

This means a two-year gap can be correct on a 2.0 diesel and a missed service on a 3.0 petrol. Look up the engine first, then read the record. If you cannot confirm the plan, ask a Jaguar retailer for the model, engine and year.

What should a Jaguar's record show?

  • A and B services in turn: the B service is the bigger visit, so a run with only A services suggests the more expensive work was avoided.
  • Engine oil on time: this is what the long intervals rely on. Late oil changes on a 2.0 diesel are worth a question, because that engine is expected to go a long way between them.
  • Diesel particulate filter: cars used mainly for short trips can have trouble with this, so repeated DPF work deserves a question.
  • Fluids due on age: brake fluid and coolant fall due on time as well as miles, so a low-mileage F-Type still needs them.

How to read a Jaguar record before you buy

Take the engine's plan and count the visits you would expect over the car's life, then compare that with what is on record. Check that the mileage climbs steadily, and compare it with the free MOT history. A big drop in value between similar cars can come down to history alone, so a gap is a fair thing to negotiate on.

The check covers models such as the XE, XF, F-Pace, E-Pace and F-Type. A record only shows what was logged, so a blank result does not prove that a car was never serviced. It means you need the invoices.

What does a Jaguar service history check cost?

A Complete History Report costs £16.99 and lists each visit recorded for the car. It also includes the stolen, write-off and finance checks, so the service record and the risk checks arrive in one report. Ordered on its own, the payment is only authorised at first and taken once records are found. If there are none, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

If you only need the risk checks, the Vehicle Risk Check costs £9.99 and is charged when you order. Both are one-off payments with no subscription. See what each check includes, or read the full guide to a car service history check. ServiceBoss is independent and is not connected with Jaguar.

Common questions

How often does a Jaguar need a service?

It depends on the engine. Tables for the XF show 16,000 miles or 12 months for 2.0 petrol, 3.0 petrol and 3.0 diesel cars from 2018, and up to 21,000 miles or 24 months for the 2.0 diesel. Check the handbook for the exact car.

Is a two-year gap normal on a Jaguar?

On some 2.0 diesels it can be, because their plan allows up to 24 months. On a car with a 12-month plan it suggests a missed service. Confirm the plan for that engine and year before you decide what the gap means.

What is the difference between a Jaguar A service and B service?

They are the two visits in the service plan, and the B service is the more thorough. They normally alternate, so a healthy record shows both rather than the same visit repeated.
