Peugeot service history check by registration
A Peugeot service history check shows the visits recorded against a car's registration, with the date, the mileage and the garage. It is worth doing because Peugeot's own digital record only starts from the day it is activated, so much of a used car's past can sit outside it. It covers Peugeots from model year 2012 where a record is held, and not every car has one.

Does Peugeot keep a digital service record?
Yes. Peugeot's Digital Service Record launched in 2022. It is free, it sits in the MyPEUGEOT app and a Peugeot retailer activates it. The limit for a used car buyer is stated by Peugeot itself: the record only logs work from the moment it is activated, and it has no access to any earlier history.
So an empty or short record in the app says little about the years before it was switched on. A check by registration does not depend on the owner's app, so it can show visits from before then where they are held. Records are not held for every Peugeot, so also ask for the paper service book and invoices.
How often should a Peugeot be serviced?
Peugeot's schedule depends on the model and engine, and the car's dashboard display or service book is the best guide to what applies. Haynes notes that oil change intervals vary widely across Peugeot's range, so look up the plan for the exact engine rather than relying on a general rule.
Kwik-Fit recommends a full service on a 308 at least every twelve months or 12,000 miles, which is a useful way to judge a car when you do not have the book in front of you. That is a garage's advice, not Peugeot's schedule. A long gap between visits is a fair thing to ask about.
What should a Peugeot's record show?
- Timing belt on 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech engines: this belt runs in engine oil. Peugeot says it has had quality issues with some PureTech engines, including oil pressure problems caused by early wear of the belt. It also says the replacement interval is set out in the car's service booklet, so check there and then look for the job.
- Oil changes on PureTech engines: Peugeot lists excessive oil consumption among the same issues. Look for oil changes on time, and ask about top-ups between services.
- AdBlue on BlueHDi diesels: owners and repair guides report faults with this system. Ask whether any warnings have appeared, and look for repair work.
- Diesel particulate filter: short urban trips can make this clog sooner. Some systems also use an additive that is reported to be easily overlooked, so ask whether it has been topped up.
Does Peugeot's extended PureTech cover apply?
It may. Peugeot says it brought in extended coverage in March 2024 for previous generations of the 1.0 and 1.2 PureTech engines, paying for parts and labour for up to 10 years or 112,000 miles, under certain conditions. Those conditions matter, so ask a Peugeot retailer whether the car qualifies and whether its servicing history affects that before you buy it.
How to read a Peugeot record before you buy
Put the visits in date order and check that the mileage climbs steadily. Then compare it with the free MOT history, which DVSA records wherever the car was serviced. Many Peugeots leave the dealer network after a few years, so a record that stops early is common and does not by itself mean neglect.
The check covers models such as the 208, 2008, 308, 3008 and 5008. If no records are found, it does not mean that the car was never serviced, so ask the seller for the book and invoices instead.
What does a Peugeot service history check cost?
A Complete History Report costs £16.99 and lists each visit recorded for the car. It also includes the stolen, write-off and finance checks, so the service record and the risk checks arrive in one report. Ordered on its own, the payment is only authorised at first and taken once records are found. If there are none, the hold is released and you pay nothing.
If you only need the risk checks, the Vehicle Risk Check costs £9.99 and is charged when you order. Both are one-off payments with no subscription. See what each check includes, or read the full guide to a car service history check. ServiceBoss is independent and is not connected with Peugeot.
Common questions
Does the MyPEUGEOT app show a used car's full history?
No. Peugeot says the Digital Service Record only logs work from the moment it is activated and has no access to earlier history. Ask for the service book and invoices to cover the years before that.
When does a Peugeot PureTech timing belt need changing?
Peugeot says the interval is in the car's service booklet, and it can differ by engine, so check there or ask a Peugeot retailer. Do this before you buy, because this belt runs in oil and Peugeot has acknowledged issues with some of these engines.
Why might a Peugeot have no service records?
Records are not held for every car. It may have been serviced at a garage that did not add to a digital record, and Peugeot's own record only began in 2022. If none are found, a Complete History Report ordered on its own costs you nothing.
