Škoda service history check by registration
A Škoda service history check shows the visits recorded against a car's registration, with the date, the mileage and the garage. The Octavia and Superb are popular with fleets and private hire drivers, so many reach private buyers with high mileage, and the record is a quick way to see how the car was looked after. It covers Škodas from model year 2012 where a record is held.

Does Škoda keep a digital service record?
Yes. Škoda is part of the Volkswagen Group, whose Digital Service Schedule is used across its brands, and garages with access add each visit to it. On a car with more than one previous owner, that matters. A stamped book can go missing between sales, while a digital record stays with the car.
A car from a fleet is not necessarily a bad buy. Company cars often run on regular servicing because someone else is paying for it. The record helps you find out whether this one did, rather than assuming either way.
How often should a Škoda be serviced?
Škoda's fixed cost maintenance guide describes two schedules. The fixed schedule is one service every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. On the flexible schedule, onboard technology monitors service needs and oil use, and some cars can go 24 months or 20,000 miles between services.
The same guide says drivers covering 10,000 miles or less a year have the fixed schedule, and those covering more have the flexible one. That gives you a useful test. A high-mileage Superb with visits 20,000 miles apart may be right on schedule. A low-mileage Fabia with two-year gaps looks less convincing, so ask which schedule the car has been on.
What should a Škoda's record show?
- DSG gearbox oil: on automatics that call for it, this has its own interval. Find out which gearbox the car has and whether the job is due, because it is an easy one to leave out of a cheap service.
- Timing belt: TDI diesels have traditionally needed a belt change at a set age or mileage. Škoda told one Karoq owner that the belt on that car has no set interval, so check what applies to the exact engine.
- Emissions recall: EA189 TDI diesels from about 2009 to 2015 were part of a recall. Ask whether the work was done, and ask a Škoda retailer if the seller is not sure.
- Suspension and brakes: these wear faster on cars that have done taxi or fleet work. Parts replaced at sensible mileages are a good sign on a car that has worked hard.
How to read a Škoda record before you buy
On a high-mileage car, the question is whether the visits kept pace with the miles. Divide the mileage by the number of services, and compare that with the schedule above. Then check the mileage against the free MOT history, particularly on a car that has been through several hands.
The check covers models such as the Octavia, Fabia, Superb, Karoq and Kodiaq. If nothing is found, that does not prove that the car was never serviced. Fleet and private hire cars are often kept going by their own garages, so ask who did the work.
What does a Škoda service history check cost?
A Complete History Report costs £16.99 and lists each visit recorded for the car. It also includes the stolen, write-off and finance checks, so the service record and the risk checks arrive in one report. Ordered on its own, the payment is only authorised at first and taken once records are found. If there are none, the hold is released and you pay nothing.
If you only need the risk checks, the Vehicle Risk Check costs £9.99 and is charged when you order. Both are one-off payments with no subscription. See what each check includes, or read the full guide to a car service history check. ServiceBoss is independent and is not connected with Škoda.
Common questions
Does a Škoda need a service every year?
On the fixed schedule, yes: every 12 months or 10,000 miles. On the flexible schedule, some cars can go up to 24 months or 20,000 miles, with onboard technology deciding when. Ask which applies to the car you are viewing.
Is a high-mileage ex-fleet Škoda worth buying?
It can be, if the servicing kept up with the miles. Check the visits against the mileage, look for DSG and timing belt work where they apply, and allow for wear in the suspension and brakes.
Does every Škoda need its timing belt changed?
Not on a single rule. TDI diesels have traditionally had a set interval, while Škoda told one Karoq owner that the belt on that car has none. Ask a Škoda retailer about the exact engine before you buy.
