Ford service history check by registration
A Ford service history check shows the visits recorded against a car's registration, with the date, the mileage and the garage. Fords are among the most common used cars in the UK, and many have passed through several owners, so paperwork often goes missing. It covers Fords from model year 2012 where a record is held.

Does Ford keep a digital service record?
Yes. Ford calls it the Digital Service Record, and describes it as the online version of a vehicle's service history. Ford says that all its vehicles sold since 2022 have been supplied with one in place of a printed booklet, and older vehicles have a printed service book. Owners can view the history through their Ford account or the FordPass app.
That split matters when you buy used. A 2023 Puma should have a digital record and no book, so a seller saying the book is lost is not a warning sign. A 2016 Focus should have a book, so ask to see it and read it alongside any digital visits. Either way the owner's account is not yours to look at, which is why a check by registration helps.
How often should a Ford be serviced?
Ford sets its intervals model by model, so there is no single rule that fits every car. Ford's own guidance is to check the schedule for the exact vehicle through FordPass or a Ford dealer. Most Fords have a time limit as well as a mileage limit, and both depend on the model and engine.
Ford notes that warranty conditions are met as long as the service intervals are observed, which is another reason to read the dates closely on a nearly new car. On an older one, look for a steady pattern of visits rather than a long gap followed by a service just before the sale.
What should a Ford's record show?
- Timing belt on the 1.0 EcoBoost: this engine uses a belt that runs in oil. Published schedules for some versions list it at about 150,000 miles or 10 years, and the age limit is the one that catches older cars. Check the figure for the exact car.
- Correct engine oil: EcoBoost engines are sensitive to the oil used, so an invoice from a garage that knows them is worth more than a stamp alone.
- Diesel particulate filter: TDCi diesels used mainly for short trips can have DPF problems, so repeated DPF work in the record is worth asking about.
- Brake fluid and coolant: these are due on time as well as mileage, so a low-mileage car still needs them.
How to read a Ford record before you buy
Fords are often serviced at independent garages once the warranty ends, and those visits may not be in the record. A dealer-only history that stops after three years is common and does not prove the car was neglected. Ask what happened next, and ask to see the invoices. Then compare the mileage with the free MOT history, which DVSA records whoever did the servicing.
The check covers models such as the Fiesta, Focus, Puma, Kuga, Mondeo and EcoSport. It is a good way to back up a seller's story, and a poor reason on its own to rule a car out.
What does a Ford service history check cost?
A Complete History Report costs £16.99 and lists each visit recorded for the car. It also includes the stolen, write-off and finance checks, so the service record and the risk checks arrive in one report. Ordered on its own, the payment is only authorised at first and taken once records are found. If there are none, the hold is released and you pay nothing.
If you only need the risk checks, the Vehicle Risk Check costs £9.99 and is charged when you order. Both are one-off payments with no subscription. See what each check includes, or read the full guide to a car service history check. ServiceBoss is independent and is not connected with Ford.
Common questions
Do new Fords come with a service book?
Ford says vehicles sold since 2022 have a Digital Service Record instead of a printed booklet, while older vehicles have a printed book. So a missing book is normal on a newer Ford and worth asking about on an older one.
How do I see a Ford's Digital Service Record?
The owner can see it through their Ford account or the FordPass app, once the car has been added. A buyer usually cannot, so either ask the seller to show you or check by registration.
When does a Ford 1.0 EcoBoost need its timing belt changed?
Published schedules for some versions list about 150,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. Check the figure for the exact car with a Ford dealer, because this belt runs in oil and the engine depends on it.
