Mercedes-Benz service history check by registration
A Mercedes-Benz service history check shows the visits recorded against a car's registration, with the date, the mileage and the garage. Mercedes-Benz keeps its service data centrally for the life of the car, so this is one of the more useful records to look at before you buy. It covers cars from model year 2012 where a record is held.

What is the Mercedes-Benz Digital Service Booklet?
The Digital Service Booklet is Mercedes-Benz's own name for its service record. Mercedes-Benz UK says the full service data is kept in its central database for the life of the car. The owner can view it through a Mercedes me account, and any Authorised Repairer can provide the data and produce a complete history if the latest report has been lost.
That access runs through the owner, which is the problem for a buyer. You will not usually have the login, and the seller may not have it either. A check by registration gets you the visits on record without either of you needing an account. Mercedes-Benz also advises keeping the latest service report, so ask the seller for that as well.
How often should a Mercedes-Benz be serviced?
Mercedes-Benz uses a system called ASSYST, which sets the next service from things such as oil temperature, engine load and how the car is driven. The date on the dash can therefore differ from a printed schedule. Services alternate between Service A and Service B, with Service A generally about a year or around 10,000 miles in, and Service B about two years or around 20,000 miles. Those figures come from dealer guides, mostly outside the UK, and vary with the car and how it is used.
So do not expect visits at identical mileages. What you want to see is an alternating pattern, with no long stretch of only one type of service or no visits at all.
What should a Mercedes-Benz record show?
- Service A: the smaller visit, built around oil and filter replacement, fluid checks, tyre pressures, a brake inspection and an ASSYST reset.
- Service B: the bigger visit, which adds items such as a cabin filter and a brake fluid exchange, along with more detailed inspections.
- Brake fluid: usually tied to Service B and often quoted at about every two years. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, so this is not one to skip.
- Automatic gearbox oil: not part of every visit. Check the schedule for the gearbox on the car you are viewing, because it is easy to miss on a higher-mileage example.
How to read a Mercedes-Benz record before you buy
Look at the order of the services before the number of them. A run of Service A with no Service B can mean the bigger, more expensive visits were skipped. Then check that the mileage rises steadily, and compare it with the free MOT history.
Owners report that the booklet concentrates on scheduled servicing and may leave out repairs and items such as brakes or wipers, so ask for invoices to fill in the rest. The check covers models such as the A-Class, C-Class, E-Class, CLA, GLA and GLC. A short record does not prove that a car was neglected, especially if an independent specialist did the work.
What does a Mercedes-Benz service history check cost?
A Complete History Report costs £16.99 and lists each visit recorded for the car. It also includes the stolen, write-off and finance checks, so the service record and the risk checks arrive in one report. Ordered on its own, the payment is only authorised at first and taken once records are found. If there are none, the hold is released and you pay nothing.
If you only need the risk checks, the Vehicle Risk Check costs £9.99 and is charged when you order. Both are one-off payments with no subscription. See what each check includes, or read the full guide to a car service history check. ServiceBoss is independent and is not connected with Mercedes-Benz.
Common questions
Can I view the Digital Service Booklet without being the owner?
Not directly. Mercedes-Benz gives owners access through Mercedes me, and a dealer may ask for proof that you own the car. A check by registration shows the visits on record without that step, so you can read them before you buy.
What is the difference between Service A and Service B?
Service A is the smaller visit, centred on oil and filter and basic checks. Service B adds more, such as a cabin filter and a brake fluid exchange. The two normally alternate, and ASSYST tells the driver which is due.
Does the Digital Service Booklet show repairs?
Not always. Owners report that it focuses on scheduled services, so repairs and wear items may not appear. Ask the seller for invoices, which also show who did the work and what it cost.
