Cupra service history check by registration

A Cupra service history check shows the visits recorded against a car's registration, with the date, the mileage and the garage. Cupra has only been a brand of its own since 2018, so every car is fairly young, and a used one should have a short and readable history. It covers Cupras where a record is held.

Does Cupra keep a digital service record?

Cupra is part of the Volkswagen Group, and garages reach its Digital Service Schedule through the same route as SEAT. Retailers add each visit, and so can other garages with access. Because the brand is so new, most used Cupras have spent their whole lives in the period when digital records were normal, so a car with nothing on it deserves a question.

Check what the car is before you start. A Leon Cupra built before 2018 was sold as a SEAT, so look at our SEAT service history check instead. The registration is all you need in either case.

How often should a Cupra be serviced?

Cupra UK says its petrol and e-Hybrid models need servicing every two years, or when the car indicates it. Electric models have an inspection service designed for electric cars. That means a two-year gap on a nearly new Formentor can be exactly what the schedule asks for, rather than a sign that a service was missed.

Owners also report cars being switched to annual servicing, for example when a service plan is taken out, and some have been told different things by different dealers. So the car's own service indicator and the last invoice are the best guides. Many of these cars are driven hard, and a shorter gap between oil changes is no bad thing on a performance engine.

What should a Cupra's record show?

  • Engine oil and filter: the heart of the service on a petrol or e-Hybrid model. Look at the date of the last change as well as the mileage.
  • DSG and all-wheel drive oil: owners have reported very different intervals for these, so ask a Cupra retailer what applies to the exact car, and then look for the entries.
  • Born inspection service: an electric Born has fewer parts to replace, but it should still show its inspection services. A service record will not tell you the condition of the battery, so see our EV checks before buying.
  • Brakes and tyres: these wear faster on quick cars. Look for them on the record and in the MOT advisories, because worn items are a fair point to negotiate on.

How to read a Cupra record before you buy

Work out which schedule the car has been on, then see whether the visits fit. On a nearly new car, servicing also matters for the warranty, so check that nothing was missed. Compare the mileage with the free MOT history once the car is old enough to have one.

The check covers models such as the Formentor, Leon, Ateca and Born. A blank result does not prove that a car was never serviced. It may be too new to have had its first service, so look at its age first.

What does a Cupra service history check cost?

A Complete History Report costs £16.99 and lists each visit recorded for the car. It also includes the stolen, write-off and finance checks, so the service record and the risk checks arrive in one report. Ordered on its own, the payment is only authorised at first and taken once records are found. If there are none, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

If you only need the risk checks, the Vehicle Risk Check costs £9.99 and is charged when you order. Both are one-off payments with no subscription. See what each check includes, or read the full guide to a car service history check. ServiceBoss is independent and is not connected with Cupra.

Common questions

How often does a Cupra need a service?

Cupra UK says petrol and e-Hybrid models need servicing every two years, or when the car indicates it, while electric models have an inspection service. Some cars are switched to annual servicing, so check the last invoice.

Is a Leon Cupra a SEAT or a Cupra?

It depends on its age. Cars built before Cupra became its own brand in 2018 were sold as SEATs, and later ones are Cupras. The check works from the registration in both cases.

Why might a used Cupra have no service records?

It may be too new to have had its first service, especially on a two-year schedule, or it may have been serviced at a garage that did not add to the record. Check the car's age and ask for any invoices.
